Palm Springs Visitor Center

Not a great photo due to the time of day, but a photo of historic interest. This Visitor Center on Hwy 111, originally a structure known as the Tramway Gas Station, is a prime example of California Modernist Architecture, which is prevalent throughout the Palm Springs area. The building was constructed in 1965 and stands at the entry road to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It was designed to be the first sight visitors saw as they entered the Coachella Valley on the old highway (most likely the only highway back then). Its distinctive, cantilevered, wedge-shaped canopy (which is referred to as a hyperbolic paraboloid on the building's historic marker) is 95 feet long according to the various websites I consulted prior to this entry.
