Fred & Andy

View of Mount Bromo from Bromo Village

The morning is spent with Fred making use of the computer in the homestay and updating Blip whilst Andy plays violin.  We then head to the bus station and onto a bus for Probolinggo. Its a hot journey but doesn't take too long and we arrive in just under three hours. We've heard about all the scams here and are actually almost kicked off the bus at a tour operator - our bags and are unloaded so we have to follow but then tell the bus conductor we want to go to the bus station and pretty much have to load our bags and ourselves into the doorway as the bus pulls away! We make it to bus station and are hassled for trips but ring our contact number and when we finally meet him ... guess what - its the guy from the travel agent where the bus conductor kicked us off. He gives us a lift back to his office and details of our trip then we head over the road to lunch as he says its much more expensive in Bromo. Just as we are tucking in he calls us back - our minivan to Bromo has arrived. We scoff and pile into a packed mini van for tthe hour or so's drive to the village of Bromo. Funilly enough, Jutine and Stephen are sitting at the back - the guys we met on the plane to Kalimantan and also saw in Sukadana ... we're obviously following the same trail.

Probolinggo is a really cute little mountain village and our guest house is really nice. There is a cool view point where you see Bromo smoking away. We have dinner, grab a couple of expensive Bintangs and head back to our room to try to get an early night. Its a 3.30am pick-up tomorrow morning.
