Isola Bella

A visit to Lago Maggiore and Stresa is not complete without a visit to the Borromeo islands. Despite our endeavour to ensure we took the regular ferries we found ourselves lured onto the private boats. This was slightly frustrating as the regular ferries are much larger, travel slower and give the opportunity to take photographs. Instead the private boats are basically water taxis, and the opportunity to take pictures is nil.

We visited the Isola Madre and the Isola Bella. This picture is taken in the gardens of Isola Bella.

I may have said this yesterday, but Stresa is overrun by tourists, mostly they seem to be from the United States. It is rare to hear any Italian in the street or in any of the restaurants.

We may have been the only Europeans in the pizzeria, apart from the staff, but by chance we managed to pick a good place for a pizza for dinner this evening.

Tomorrow we head back to Lenno, where we can become semi residents once again. Without doubt Lake Como is much less commercialised than Lake Maggiore. Although Bellagio is the exception where once again tourists have taken over.
