Tomb with a view

Went into Oban this afternoon to buy some potting compost at Poppies garden centre and stopped there for lunch  again.

On the search for a good blip - it's been an amazingly warm and sunny day again - I popped into Pennyfuir Cemetery, just north of Oban. Although I'd driven past here so many times over the years it wasn't until coming by recently in a slightly higher hire (!) van that I realised that there was a lochan behind the cemetery, invisible from the seat of my car!

Had a wander round this lovely cemetery where there are many old tombstones and also many newer and less ornamental ones, backed by the blue water of Lochan Dubh, which must have been named on a darker day!

In this cemetery are buried four of the crew of the Short Sunderland flying boat which crashed on Eagle Rock in Caithness in 1942, while carrying the Duke of Kent to Iceland.
