Memories of a nation ....

...... to quote the subtitle to Neil McGregor's excellent book about Germany and its history, which was linked to the British Museum exhibition earlier this year.

I have taken loads of photos today, so impossible to choose. This was early on. The Reichstag is behind us, the new government buildings are across the River Spree, and these crosses each commemorate someone killed as they attempted to cross from east to west on the river route in the years between 1961 and the 1980's.

History, much of it very raw, is impossible to avoid in Berlin. Not a city for an unthinking holiday !
