Baby pied wagtail

I’ve been hoping to find a pied wagtail close enough to photograph for a while and today was the day.  I had a lanes walk with Little Dog before tutoring and happened across a very vocal pair of adults doing their best to distract me. 

It worked really well because it was only when I picked up a call on my phone that I’d been waiting for and turned round that I spotted a very quiet, very motionless little bird on the wall in front of me.  I couldn't end the call quick enough!

He was sitting like a heron at first - rather like an egg on a wall but when I put my phone back in my pocket, he stood up to show off his splendid pied trousers.
