Cross

Sarah and I went to visit a friend whose birthday was today, and afterwards we walked in the grounds of Friars Carse Hotel, along the River Nith. We saw a goosander with 11 ducklings!
Near the hotel is this cross, thought to date from the 9th century and known as the Laughmoor Cross. It was in the Celtic style, but its arms have broken off. it had been reused as a horizontal gravestone and the pair of shears carved on its face may indicate that it was the grave of a woman, apparently.
