Way Station

Floral way stations punctuate a continuing stalk.  I don't remember ever noticing something like this--several clusters of flowers grow from a three-foot-long stem at intervals along it.  I'm not sure if the stem grows out and then the flowers emerge along it, or if the stem grows from the center of each in a line of succeeding flowers.
