The Isle of Bute ... Rothesay Castle

We drove round to Colintraive to take the very short crosing of the Kyles of Bute to Rhubodach on the Isle of Bute. From there we drove along the shore to Rothesay and then further round to Mount Stuart.

From the car park we had a long walk in the grounds of Mount Stuart House. The ground was drier then it has been on previous visits so we went into the gardens and down the Lime walk to the shore where we followed the shore walk to the boathouse before turning back into the gardens where we found the folly and then made our way in a winding route up to the main house and along the path beyond. We made our way back to the visitor centre where we had lunch and Maeve the Deerhound had a rest in the car.

After lunch we drove back through Rothesay and crossed the island to Ettrick Bay where we had a wander along the beach and enjoyed the view back across to where we had walked yesterday, and also views out to Inchnarnock, Kintyre and Arran.

Back in the car and back round to Rothesay where we had a short walk round along the seafront and round by the castle (now ruined, formerly a stronghold of the Stewarts) before visiting the supermarket to stock up on groceries for the rest of the week, after which we made our way back to the ferry for the return crossing and the drive back round to Kames.

Extra images of the Lime walk, boathouse interior details, and Maeve the Deerhound at the folly.
