A time for everything

Journey's end - finally!

Monday
Today we were leaving our home south of Paris, and heading north and across to England to visit family with our daughter, dropping our son-in-law off at Charles de Gaulle airport on the way, since he was returning to the U.S. I was quite excited, as I was finally going to meet one of my blip friends, Honeycombebeach, as our route to my sister's in the Gloucester area would take us very close to her home. Unfortunately, "the best laid plans...."! As is usually the case, we encountered slow traffic driving up to the airport, so were a bit later leaving the airport than we had planned, then we ran into heavy rain in places on the way up to Calais, lowering the speed limit, so the net result was we missed our check in time for the tunnel. Usually this isn't a big problem - you can usually get on the next train, with no penalty, just paying the difference in fare if it is in a higher price range. However, due to fully booked trains, plus a previous problem in the tunnel, meaning all trains were delayed by 90 minutes, it looked as though we were going to be stuck there for 4-5 hours. So unfortunately I had to call my friend and let her know we regretfully wouldnt be able to make it. We had some lunch in the terminal, keeping an eye on the board, and fortunately, as time passed, they did seem to be making up some time, so we did actually leave earlier than we originally thought, but not early enough to revert to our original plan. Our timing then put us on the Gloucester ring road at rush hour, further compounded by road works, so it was around 6.30 when we finally reached my sister's, having left home at 6.30 am English time. We seem to be fated with the tunnel lately - when we went at Christmas, we had to sit in the car for several hours waiting to board, due to another "incident" in the tunnel!
The sun was almost setting before I thought of getting a blip for the day, so I went upstairs to the bedroom, and took a picture of the lovely view my sister enjoys from her bedroom window.
