Today is a new day...

By Quaver

No picnics today.....

....because the picnic tables are under 8 feet of snow!!

We set off from Oslo to travel to Eidfjord. Well, it wouldn't be Norway without major roadworks and diversions. We were diverted over a long, very narrow bridge and then along the side of a lake on a single track road which was very hilly and bendy.

Then the road climbed to over 4000 feet and the snow was piled high on each side. There was thick snow lying on the lakes too which was amazing. The temperature plummeted from 20 degrees to 2 degrees which was a bit of a shock to the system (especially semi-Q who had just put on her holiday sandals!). Of course we then had to descend from the snowy heights which was quite scary coming down really steep roads and then plunging into darkness in the many tunnels which Norway seems to have in abundance. We arrived at Orve Eidfjord and claimed our spot overlooking the water and surrounded by mountains.

It's been quite an adventurous day.

Apparently it's really unusual to have the snow lying so thickly at this time of year......lucky us!

Things to remember about today:-

Don't wear your sandals in the snow
Mr Q might have been right all along when he bought snow chains for the motorhome on Ebay
Alpine huts with grass and flowers growing on the roofs
