A New Day

Misty Waters

Nothing more exciting than a visit to a couple of garden centres in Perth to buy a new climbing rose to replace the sadly mildew-damaged Zephirine Drouhin that flowers so beautifully against our front wall.  We have tried every remedy known to man to get rid of the mildew, but nothing has worked and it's now going to be cheaper to replace the rose than keep trying more chemicals.

We were unable to find the same variety locally, so have purchased a different one in the hope it will do better.  The new one will be planted in a different location to the other, as we think this is what caused the problem in the first place. The Zephirine Drouhin replaced a previous rose which had suffered from black spot.  Why are roses so disease-prone?  Even when the label tells you they are "resistant"!!

During our wanders in one garden centre, we came across this water feature which gave off a gentle mist all the time and we wouldn't have been surprised to see some fairies pop out of the plants:-)
