The Quaich

Monday's blip showed us outside the village shop, with Jess reading about the home made pies on sale.

Today we return to this shop, which is The Quaich in Kilmelfort. It is a bit of everything: as well as a general store, it contains the Post Office, a craft shop and the newsagents. There is also a cafe and (three nights a week) a restaurant.

In four years of visiting this part of the world, we had often intended to book a meal in this restaurant, but never got round to it. This time we decided to go for it as our final treat before going home tomorrow.

And what a treat! The blip shows Mrs jml about to tuck into her dish of scollops. What a wonderful presentation - plus exceedingly generous portions. Each of three shells was beautifully piped with mashed potatoes and contained two large scollops. And when did you last find a table laid with real fish knives & forks? (See it in large.)

I enjoyed my game pie (Wild Argyll rabbit) and Mr jinty loved his lamb tagine. If we are back here again next year, as I hope we will be, The Quaich will be a must on our itinerary.
