Greenbelt under threat- again!

This historic designed landscape with an Iron Age fort in the middle of a Greenbelt could soon be filled with tennis courts, football pitch, six hole golf course, an Andy Murray museum, hotel and of course £million pound houses if Judy Murray has her way. Oh yes and a “country park” as the carrot- on land that is inaccessible to all but the young and fit.

Yesterday a glossy brochure dropped through my letterbox advertising all this. I was not alone. As far as I can tell all residents in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan received similar brochures. The cost of this PR exercise alone must have cost thousands of pounds which goes to show the depths of pocket of the developers headed by two celebrities, Judy Murray, mother of Andy, and Colin Montgomery, golfer, though why a golfer of his stature wants to be associated with a six hole golf course is a mystery.

While nearly 800 people have written in opposing housing on Park of Keir less than a dozen have done so in support. So this brochure comes with a free postcard urging people to return it with their names, addresses and email.

Then comes a neat bit of data harvesting, something that I was not aware of until a keen environmentalist and politician pointed it out to me.

Once the developer has this key information it will be fed into computers at Stirling Council and will appear as letters of support.

While we recognize Judy Murray has a desire to leave a lasting legacy we do wonder why she does not find a less controversial site. As a local resident she claims to be listening to the views of the community. It looks to us she is listening to the views of the property developer.

Anyway our group RAGE (Residents Against Greenbelt Erosion) have launched an online petition today.  This is the link should you wish to sign it: Save our Greenbelt.

( Having a spot of bother with the link- its on Change.org - just key in greenbelt , park of keir in search- ta ).
