Balancing act

Last night we went to a celebration of the life of John Wilcox, aka Johnny Canuck, an amazing man who passed away in 2012.   The celebration was at Duck Creek Farm, founded by John in 1990.  The farm continues to flourish under the care of his partner Sue and her children.  A perfect way to celebrate Canada Day too, remembering a man who was passionate about this land and proved it in many ways, one of which was driving a 1941 Chevy truck, decorated with a maple leaf, across Canada in protest of the Free Trade Agreement.   The music was fantastic, with Cowboy Ted starting off the night playing some country songs that John liked, followed by Duck Creak with Valdy on bass.  Danced under a brilliant moon, sang along to the songs we knew, had a great time.
Today: Weed-whacking, mowing, hand watering the wilting zucchini and cuke plants - more time in the garden.  I felt like I'd placed a full game of basketball by the time I'd finished, all red-faced and sweaty.  I'm spending the rest of the day in the shade.
Took this shot at the dock at Fulford Harbour.   Not the best photo, but I like the way he's holding out his left arm to balance as he steps off the boat.  The extra: the foot passenger and cyclist walkway for the Fulford-Swartz Bay ferry.
