San Giovanni in Laterano

It's unbelievably hot here - hotter than our previous visit at this time of year. We arrived early for mass and walked in the cloisters first, viewing a rather random selection of architectural bits and bobs from previous buildings which stood on the site. Glorious bits of mosaic in these cloisters from the Romanesque monastery.

Chamber Choir sang incredibly beautifully in this spectacular setting in the mass at 12.30. The church is huge but they were calm and composed.

Homeward then to our little flat with salty meat and tomato stuffed focaccia sandwiches and fizzy water. Out again for gelato and 2 x churches containing 4 x Caravaggios and a Raphael all within a five minute walk. Amazing!
