Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud

Today we headed over to Dovedale on the southern side of the Peak District.  A beautiful sunny morning until we had nearly reached our destination and then it began to rain!  Unperturbed, we walked along the river until we reached the famous stepping stones - a series of large flat boulders crossing the river.  Luckily, after about 15 minutes of reaching the stepping stones the rain stopped and the sun came out! Turned into a lovely warm day.

We then walked through the valley until we reached the path leading to the summit of Thorpe Cloud. A very steep climb to the top (with a few stops on the way to catch my breath admire the views!) Fabulous 360 degrees views from the top. It was pretty challenging taking photos as the winds were howling around us!  However, managed to get this shot of the valley below - I liked the huge cloud rolling across the sky and it's shadow flowing across the fields below.

Back to the apartment for a shower and change of clothes before heading out for dinner at the Scotsman's Pack Country Inn in Haversage. A really delicious dinner of pork and leek sausages, swede and potato mash, red peppers with a mustard gravy, followed by toffee and apple crumble with cream.  Definitely the best meal of the week so far (thanks Liz for the recommendation).

A few extra shots of the stepping stones, the river and valley.
