full steam ahead

...the weather continues to be rubbish but we got off relatively lightly in Dorset, which is more than can be said for our unfortunate south coast neighbours of Hampshire and Sussex.

It occurred to me that I have been remiss in not blipping one of Swanage's most popular attractions, namely the Swanage Railway. This currently extends from Swanage to Norden just beyond Corfe Castle. The great news is that, after a lot of negotiation, time, and hard work, the line will be operation all the way to the mainline station at Wareham in 2013.

I was fortunate when I popped out during a period of drizzle, to find that both of the Bulleid Pacifics (34028 Eddystone and 34070 Manston) were visible from Northbrook Road bridge. These locomotives were restored by and for Southern Locomotives Ltd. at the nearby Herston Works.

We look forward to being able to travel all the way from Swanage to London by train again next year...
