Fending off the Robbing Seagull

The grebes' eggs at Nanpantan seem finally to have hatched, although I could see only one chick on the Dad's back. I think it's the Dad this year. Difficult to tell.

Mum had gone hunting and was being bothered by a black headed gull whenever she successfully speared a fish.

She brought this small fish to try and tempt the chick, but it didn't seem to know what to do with it, so Dad gobbled it up instead. Don't blame him. Bit hard to go hunting while carrying chicks on board.
