Chicory

There are quite a lot of chicory flowers around at the moment.  I like them although they're more of a wild flower than a garden one.  I do wonder why.

It also gives me a chance to repeat a bit of scurrilous etymology (I think I told this story about 4 years ago on Blip).

Chicory was and is used to make a coffee substitute - Camp Coffee is probably the best known in Britain.  It was known as Mocca Faux in France and was rather delightfully corrupted to Muckefuck in German.

So, if you're ever offered a Muckefuck in Germany, you'll know exactly what they mean.

I feel somehow, that Frankie Howerd would approve.
