Lonely Pukeko

The Pukeko is a native bird of New Zealand. The common English name is the purple swamp hen. They are water birds and many live around the lake at the Taylor Dam. This one was cavorting with its mate on this little islet early this morning. They spotted Fergus and although he was sitting nicely at heel some distance away, the second bird was taking no chances and flew off into the distance.
