Goldfinch

The gardener in me would cut the dead heads from the Knautia which grows near the bird feeders but, how can I deny  the Goldfinch the pleasure of a natural bounty? 

The birds weigh next to nothing but the stems bend under their weight and it is quite wonderful to watch them trying to gain their balance as they reach the ripe seeds.  The thistles are in flower now, so soon the Goldfinches will be heading out into the fields rather than hanging around my garden and if I cut the heads a little I might get some more flowers.
