Banner design

I've been today at a meeting to discuss having a banner in our WI. In the early days of the Women's Institute many members had come from the suffragette movement and were therefore accustomed to having banners. The early WI banners are exquisite pieces of work as shown by this one, illustrated on the front cover of a book about textiles in the WI. It was made in 1924 by members of Dormansland WI in Surrey.
We will not be producing anything as remarkable as this, but at today's meeting we came up with some basic ideas for a start. We have some good needlewomen in our WI so I hope we come up with something special. Watch this space!
