The Wren

Kristiansund

This was a delightful stop and as I did not have an excursion planned I was able to mooch around and absorb the feeling of the place. Like most of these townships the population is spread between several islands linked, as you can see here, by bridges. The harbour was exceptionally busy with numerous small boats and yachts plying to and forth, maybe carrying commuters. The small boat you can see in the distance is an interesting square shaped ferry which nips along throughout the day ferrying passengers between the four main islands. It wasn't a long journey and made a fun change to the usual hop on and hop off buses, so I had a go. Once more the wild flowers were everywhere and brought a summery look to the town.

Off now to the Arctic Circle and midnight sun.  Already the evenings have a remarkable blue light to them.
