It's a Beautiful Life

Library of Celcus, Ephesus

We visited the ancient city of Ephesus on Monday. It's quite spectacular. Apparently they have only excavated around 10-20% of the city, which once had a population of 250,000. The city had a plumbing system and even public toilets (no cubicles though!). I can just imagine the first century inhabitants sitting there in their togas whilst catching up with the local gossip! The highlight had to be the most recently excavated area of the Terraced Houses, which had some amazingly well-preserved wall paintings and floor mosaics, as well as a first century kitchen, with plumbing. It really gave a glimpse into how people lived.

We also had an unscheduled excursion to a local hospital when one of our friends keeled over with heat exhaustion and got blue-lighted to the nearest casualty department. An eventful day all round!

I'm sorry I'm getting behind with commenting on all your blips...intermittent access to WiFi and limited time in between windsurfing, etc!!
