Happiest house?

This is Far Shepherds Cottage on the very extensive Glen Estate.   It is 2.5 miles up the road into the hills from the Big House - which is surrounded by all the trappings of a Victorian Grand House.- schoolhouse, village hall, kennels, accommodation for many servants and estate workers.   At one time there were 25 gardeners employed - today there is one part time.

The Tennant family made their great fortune from bleach factories in Glasgow.   Their place in the London social network was famously scandalous.   Succeeding generations lost the fortune - over, for example, their acquisition of the Caribbean Island of Mustique.   Princess Margaret was a regular visitor here at the Glen and also in Mustique, hosted by her sycophantic friend Colin Tennant, Lord Glenconner.    The story is dark, and immensely tragic - one son being permanently injured in a motorcycle accident, a second dying of AIDS and a third of Hepatitis C from years of drug and alcohol abuse.      It is a family disaster of epic proportions.

The extra is of the Big House - a rather different dwelling from that enjoyed by the far shepherd.
