People collect these tiny spiral-shelled molluscs  in huge quantities and they are shipped  abroad to where they are more appreciated.  Trying to find how much the pickers earned was  not easy but an Irish fishery offers 10 euros a stone i.e. about £1 a kilo. I doubt the income is declared.
