One-Way

The road from town to our apartment on Playa La Ropa has been under construction since before Christmas, which means I have blipped it a couple of times. For the past six months we have had Transito police managing traffic. There is one stationed at each end of the construction section (about a kilometer apart). They radio back and forth, telling each other when the last vehicle is coming through and therefore when the next line of traffic can be released. I think they must be getting bored with their jobs as this is the second time in two days that I have been involved in a traffic jam because the vehicles at one end are allowed to proceed before all the vehicles from the other end have made it through the construction zone (the northbound armored car is squaring off against the southbound water truck in this shot). Sometimes these confrontations are easily solved with one vehicle carefully squeezing by the other, different days, such as this afternoon, it takes someone backing up, many times a considerable distance, in order to end the stalemate.

What I find particularly amusing is the Transito, who caused all the congestion, made no move from his shady spot on the far right to help sort out his mess. He just watched, like the rest of us, while the two trucks figured out what to do (the armored guy, and the cars behind him, eventually backed up enough for the water truck, and the cars behind him, to get by). Always an adventure driving in Mexico!
