Waiting

The road, the only road, to Playa La Ropa has been under re-construction since the start of tourist season. Restricted to single lane traffic from this point at the base of the first hill to the dolphins, more than a kilometer away, trips to town can take 20 minutes or more depending upon how long one must wait. The transito police work from first light until about midnight at which point passage is dependent on cooperation by both drivers. Sometimes you can carefully squeeze by, other times one must backup to spot wide enough to pass. Rumor has it that the road will be opened for two way traffic during the Semana Santa holiday, which begins today. It would be nice to be able to travel without having to wait, even if it means driving on compacted dirt and even if it is only for a couple of weeks - time will tell if the workers can clear all the debris on this lovely new concrete.
