Neighborhood markets are the lifeblood of their respective areas. While Zihuatanejo has a couple of large grocery stores and the central mercado, it is these small convenience stores that sell the things necessary for life to function in that neighborhood. All of them sell Coca Cola, the national drink of Mexico, and some sell Pepsi Cola though no where near as many. The smallest stock only a few snacks, the largest have all the staples, fresh produce, as well as meat and dairy. I liked the faded sign and the way the light played upon the wall of this not yet open shop I passed on the way to the mercado this morning.
