Seaside Show Vintage Style

No seaside air show is complete without fish and chips, ice cream, a beer and it would seem being pooped on by a seagull!

The sun was shining for the second year of the Bexhill Roaring 20s event supported by many local community groups from the Bexhill Classic Car Association, East Sussex Vintage Motor Cycle Club and local dance groups that broke the world record for the largest amount of people performing a Charleston dance.

I had the privilege of commentating the vintage flying displays: Sopwith and Fokker Triplanes from the Great War Display Team, BBMF Dakota DC3, Hawker Hurricane and a rare 1931 built Civilian Coupe called Bunty. Read more about her colourful past here.

The flying display was great entertainment and I had plenty of material to amuse the crowd when the Hurricane was delayed from North Weald due to its tailwheel getting stuck in a rabbit hole! Thankfully no bunnies were harmed and the aircraft was certified safe to fly.

The Hawker Hurricane Mk 11B made it to Bexhill to close the show with a graceful and evocative display from Hangar 11's Peter Teichmann that brought a respectful silence from the crowd as we remembered the victory the aircraft brought us 75 years ago at the Battle of Britain.

A great day celebrating the 1920s which I thoroughly enjoyed in the company of mum and dad. Any excuse to dress up vintage for mum and I. We'll be back again next year!

Must dash off to drive back to Kent and collect my ultra running brother from a random village after a trial run of the last marathon distance of the North Downs Way 100.
