Fishing Puffin

This is the newest member of my puffin family. He was made by Chloe Harford based in Cornwall. The cracked glaze effect is called raku caused by rapidly firing the ceramic to glowing hot (1000deg C) then immersing it in sawdust while still glowing. The sawdust instantly combusts and the shock of the air causes the glaze to craze. The smoke from the burning sawdust causes the distinctive black lines.  Clever and effective.  I thought he was very lovely and was pleased to give him a home.
