Lucy Boston Quilts

Oh what a lovely day I have had. Most of the day was spent with a good friend M, who helped me make a pattern from a top that I had. Then we made a  a fitted bodice pattern which will be my template for future tops. M is so knowledgeable and generous.

I had very nearly forgot that we had moved OCQ  to this week and we were visiting the Lucy Boston Quilts at The Manor, Hemingford Gray. The Manor was built in the 1130's and is one of the oldest continually inhabited houses in Britain.

Lucy was a children's author. and published all her work after she was 60, she also created a magical garden, an accomplished artist (studied in Vienna) and patchworker - which was what we had gone to see.

We were given a tour of the old house which was very interesting and I do love to look round old houses, especially the quirkier ones like this. We saw Lucy's quilts which were all made by hand over papers,. She sewed in the winter in poor lighting and was still sewing well into her late 80's. In the summer she gardened. the gardens were amazing, full of beautiful plants, and the topiary was stunning.

A lovely way to spend a day
