Learning day by day

Lavender

So the best laid plans for a quiet, no kids, day feel through this morning at 08.00 when T rang in sick. She must be bad as it is only the second time in four years that I've known it happen. William, needless to say was not impressed and sobbed for a good five minutes when I told him he couldn't go to 'Eena's. Made me feel like a great Mummy, I can tell you.

Anyway he requested the buggy to school (unheard of these days, it is usually used as a threat if he isn't getting ready quick enough), so I made use of it and walked into town after Carys went into school. With the bribery of a cake we got lots of jobs done. After cake we walked to the park and he had a good run around there, before we went home. What a difference a dry day makes, instead of lamenting the fact it was only 11.30, it was great that it was only 11.30 as I had time to plan another out for the afternoon.

So lunch was had and we set out on an adventure to visit Hitchin Lavender. We haven't been there before and because the lavender is delayed due to the weather it was free to walk around the field as only three or so rows were in bloom. But that was enough for us. Some of the lavender was up to William's shoulders. He loved running up and down the rows and he was very excited when we saw some rabbits, well hares, but that doesn't really matter when you are two and a half.

We topped it off by sharing a jam and cream scone and I had a cup of tea before heading home in time to get Carys from school. She seems to have survived her first day back. After worrying last night about whether or not I should be sending her I found a leaflet from the DoH dated 2010 which states if they are not unwell kids can go back five days after the spots appear (nothing about them scabbing). It also says they do not have to be excluded for Hand, foot and mouth. Both pieces of advice differing from what schools around here enforce.

Anyway she is back and full of the fact that that she won her two races in the 'practice' for sports day. Wonder what will happen on the day?
