Crowds waiting for the Queen

The Queen came to Hitchin today. It was organised chaos and she was only here for ten minutes if that! Carys's school took all 270 pupils down to town to see her and I was asked to be one of the escorts. Nanna had charge of William, so he got to see the Queen in her car and still made it to Music Train and swimming.

Our kids were great the whole time. We were all together in one group, but I think the council underestimated the number of people who were going to turn up and sadly the group of kids I was with got moved at the last minute from a very good place (where she was going to get back into her car) to another part of the Square where they could see the car in the distance and then she walked behind them but their veiw was obscured by a lot of adult escorts from another school. I was hoping to have a good Blip of Her Majesty, but although I, being tall, had a good view of her, I was lifting Reception age kids above my head so they could see her, so my hands were otherwise occupied.

Carys, I think fared better. She was sat on the opposite side of the road from where I had been originally and she saw the Queen walking along the road and then at quite close quarters through the window of the car. She was bouncing, but I do feel sorry for the little group that were with me. Although they had been warned before we set out that they might not see much, a policeman had told them, when we were in our original position, that they would she her getting into her car, but in the end they hardly saw anything at all.
