Over the Cairngorms

Today's driving trip was nearly 400 miles. I left our overnight location just north of Inverness after breakfast, to drive south for tonight's stay with a friend in Yorkshire. I decided to forego the speed of the faster roads, and to head over the Cairngorms on the fabulous route via Tomintoul, on Scotland's highest road. It is also one of its most scenic. Then on to Braemar, and after that the dramatic switchback A68 which is like a theme park roller coaster with lots of steep dips and blind brows.

It was a wonderful day's driving in the new Skoda Superb, but also rather a long one. A nice glass of chilled Chardonnay awaited me on arrival in Kirkbymoorside, along with a very enjoyable catch-up evening of chat with my old friend Jackie.

South again tomorrow, for the final leg back to Kent.
