London Palladium

We braved the heavy rain and went to the London Palladium tonight to see "Sinatra - The Man and His Music".  It was an ingenious and technically very clever show, using films of Sinatra singing some of his best known numbers, interspersed with interviews and other films, all accompanied by a live band and dancers.  The images were shown on a large, moveable video screen which flew down from above the stage.  Other images were shown on a bank of rotating video screens on stage, plus images projected onto the wall at the back of the stage and on to intermediate screens and gauzes, so there were multiple layers of images all cleverly coordinated.  The films of him singing were cunningly accompanied by the live band (the original film soundtrack must have been edited to remove the orchestral accompaniment of the time) and the whole show made for a very entertaining evening.  It was amazing how familiar all the songs were.

We left home later than intended to get to the show, but still managed to find time for a quick pasta meal in a restaurant opposite the theatre.  From my restaurant seat, I could see these people enjoying a pre-show drink on the balcony over the entrance hall to the theatre.
