Rainy Day

We've been so lucky with the weather so far this holiday.
But naturally as soon as we got to the camping part it's started chucking it down!
The campsite is a bit of a shock after the peace and quiet we've had for the last week. It's full of vigorous Europeans in stonewashed skinny jeans with copious amounts of cooking and cleaning equipment.
We, on the other had, are the most ill prepared campers ever. We got here with no matches for the hob, no milk for tea and no proper food.
I thought there'd be a shop!!
I found the nearest GB numberplate and begged for matches. At least we could have rhubarb tea!
The Little Misses had brioche and Nutella for dinner.
I did manage to push the culinary boat out for me and Mr K and we had a delicious bowl of curry and rice!
The tent is ace! It has wooden floors, proper beds, duvets, a fridge-freezer, a fake wood burning stove and bedside tables - with lamps on. Not exactly roughing it!!
We woke to the sound of rain on the roof and the sight of people walking past with baguettes!  There is a shop - we were saved!!
Milk, pains au chocolat, peanut M&Ms, a baguette and some orange juice. Excellent start to the day!!
We headed over to Deauville despite the rain hoping to have a walk on the boardwalk and a posh cup of coffee.
The last time I was in Deauville was on a school day trip when I was eleven. Our teachers had got a bit drunk in Honfleur and when we got to Deauville they didn't really notice as we all went into the sea and jumped about in the massive waves in our school uniforms!
Those were the days!!
We drove over in light rain, parked on the seafront in light rain and then got out of the car into torrential vertical lashing monsoon apocalyptic rain.
Miss E and I made it onto the sand and she even managed to make a teeny sandcastle whilst clutching her umbrella. We were drenched within seconds!
Naturally five minutes after we got back into the car - soaking everything inside - the rain became light again.
I abandoned my plans for the rest of the afternoon and we headed back to the tent for an afternoon of relaxing with iPads, Kindles and laptops.
And the hit of the holiday so far, Yam!
Yam is French Yahtzee which Mr K picked up for €2 in the campsite shop. The Little Misses loved it and played it for hours. It all sounded very complicated, especially in French!
Dinner was hot dogs and beans. Followed by yoghurts that I had bought earlier.
They looked tasty - with chocolate on the bottom and in very pretty glass jars.
The Little Misses started eating them and were a bit suspicious about the chocolate. Mr K checked the packaging and discovered that the brown stuff at the bottom was in fact chestnuts!
They immediately threw their jars aside, declaring it disgusting.
On closer inspection of the packaging I noticed the picture of the sheep.
Seriously, how could I have accidentally bought sheep's milk chestnut yoghurt?!!!!!
It made us laugh! And I have the pretty jars for tealight holders!
It brightened up in the evening and we had more games of Yam, played badminton and ate French bread and cheese.
And hung our wet clothes and shoes in front of the hob in a vain attempt to get them dry.
Not quite the day I had planned but still a good one!
