Not Yet A Lawn

Today I was about to try and mow our lawn, but when I looked out it was already raining and continued off and on throughout the day.  Our lawn, is not yet a lawn, but is currently a weed patch.  We have applied the appropriate quantity of good quality grass seed to the 120 tonnes of soil that was replaced to bring our lawn back to its original height and shape, but very little of it has grown.  What has grown are the weeds shown in this picture, which are now some half metre high in places, covering the grass, which where it has grown is only some 50mm.  Once it is dry enough to mow, the weeds will gradually get suppressed by repeated cuttings and the grass should have a chance to proliferate.  Today’s blip is of what is not yet a lawn, but at least it is green and looks better than bare soil.
