The Edge of the Wold

Flight of the heron

Herons with their heavy flapping flight and trailing legs have a prehistoric feel to them.  The breeding season is long since over, and they are more numerous now at our end of the estuary a few miles from the heronry.  Noticeable this year have been the little egrets with them, every night we see a few staccato stalking in the shallows.

This was taken last night (Weds) when Gus was especially pleased because Wifie came with us on the evening walk.

Apologies that I am so seldom here.  The days are getting shorter, and soon there will be more time for the computer in the evenings.
