Life through the lens...

Deadly!

Deadly nightshade, or botanical name Atropa Belladonna.
The name says it all- both the foliage and berries of this plant are extremely toxic.
It has a long, colourful history of use as a poison, but what many people don't realise is that the nightshade family includes common food plants, including potato, tomatoes, egg plants, and chilli peppers.
In fact all these edible plants contain toxins. -  usually in their foliage - that can be harmful.
In particular, humans and pets should avoid potato and tomato foliage and vines in the garden.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
A fellow Blipper has just informed me that this is woody nightshade, Solanum dulcamara.
Still deadly though!

We woke to a beautiful sunny morning , so I decided to go for a walk before any shopping, and washing.
These days you never know when the rain may return.
Also called to see Tom, and got our first tomatoes, as well as a cabbage and some kidney beans.
(Then had to carry them a mile and a half back home. )
He is not happy as the tomatoes aren't ripening at all this year. Says it is the worse year he can remember. Too cold at night.

The photo was taken on my walk, for Flower Friday.
