Calgary Beach

Croissants and cappuccinos on the pier before a lively service with a lady preacher at the evangelical church, and then drove to a beautiful beach - well, it would be beautiful if it wasn't raining continuously... Though we did stop and watch two white seal pups through the binoculars, and their parents popping up in the water nearby.

(And yes, Calgary in Canada is named after this Calgary - it was the favourite summer home of Colonel James Macleod of the Canadian Mounted Police, who in 1876 suggested this name for Fort Calgary, which then gave its name to Calgary, Alberta.)

On the way, an absolutely delicious lunch, all with locally produced ingredients, at Am Birlinn (an ancient Hebridean ship) restaurant - so good, we've booked to go back for dinner next week.
