On Minchinhampton Common

Helena spotted that the kite flyers were out on the common when she was driven back from her work near Cirencester this afternoon.  She suggested driving up there to enjoy a bit of air and hazy sun which was very attractive as I had been proof reading a rather long document all morning.

The kites were a mix of basic fun family kites  combined with the extravagant hand made designs of more adventurous types like Andy.  He made this tube shaped kite which he tethered close to the ground.  I liked the idea of looking though it like a kaleidoscope.

My other picture is of a general view of a few of the other fun kites, some also by Andy  from Bristol, who knew an old acquaintance of mine from thirty years ago, who is now a leading English kite designer.

I normally stand near here and film skylarks in flight and nestling on the ground.  tomorrow they will have it back to themselves, and the herds of wandering cows who graze the commons all summer long.
