Honey...

A quiet day preparing for a very busy week ahead.  Another studio portrait of a beetle, this one being Stictoleptura rubra, sometimes known as the Red Longhorn Beetle from the colour of the female. The species is striking to look at the female being uniformly red-brown in colour; males having pale ochre coloured elytra and black head and thorax. It's a very local species of southern England and breeds in coniferous dead wood, including railway sleepers. This one was having a snack of honey before being released on a conifer stump in our garden.
