A Meandering Life...

Did-You-Think-He-Saw-Us..?

Or the Victorian version of Iguanodon dinosaurs.

These statues date back to c.1854 and are found in Crystal Palace Park, South London. They were the first ever attempt in the world to recreate full sized model dinosaurs. Their creator, Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins didn't always get it right but I wonder what our descendants will make of some of our current interpretations...

The Crystal Palace was destroyed by fire in 1936 and only some of the foundations (see my extra) are still visible today. Unfortunately a recent proposal by a Chinese development company to built a £500 million replacement has fallen through. Maybe a dinosaur was involved with the policy making.

More information can be found on the Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs website.
