Above And Beyond...

Dunster

After breakfast we set off from our friends farm and walked through their wood they have set apart for burying their pet animals and relatives ashes, through to the  public footpath.

We followed this for a good couple of miles and walked to the top of Bats Castle, an Iron age Hillfort, which overlooks the sea towards the Welsh coast, more directly Port Talbot. It was strange seeing Flat Holmes and Steep Holmes Islands from a different angle that we see them from back in South Wales.

After another couple of miles we ended up in Dunster medieval village where the blip photo is taken of the church in the town centre. I did take pictures of the lovely high street but everyone takes pictures there and many are online. I love the colours of the plants complimenting the ancient church.

Dunster is situated in the sweeping hills of the Exmoor National Park and provides the ideal base for your holiday.  With over 200 listed buildings Dunster is preserved so that generations to come can enjoy the historic qualities of this unique village.  Dunster has a wealth of historic buildings, from the National Trust’s 11th century Dunster Castle to the Old Yarn Market in the middle of the High Street, which was a focal point for the old Exmoor wool and cloth trade.

We had a late lunch in the Luttrell Arms in the high street where the beer garden overlooks the castle. Luckily the weather stayed dry.

From Dunster town we walked the mile or so back to the farm where we enjoyed the outdoor hot tub.
