Tekakwitha

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (1656-1680) was the daughter of a Mohawk Chief. Orphaned at the age of 4, she bore severe scarring after surviving a smallpox epidemic that claimed the lives of her father, mother and her brother. She lived a modest life at Kahnawake, where she converted to Catholicism at 18 years of age. Her health was frail and she passed away at the age of 24, after which it is said that her scars disappeared and she appeared to those with whom she had prayed.

This small statue can be found at the Mohawk Hills Golf Course at the Kahnawake Reserve on Montreal's south shore. The Whiff 'n Putts nine hole golf group likes to play there on Tuesday mornings. I joined the group this week. Had a bad game, but found this interesting statue beside the pond.
