The Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth today gave us an insight into naval vessels, life and warfare over the centuries. The Mary Rose museum was particularly interesting, where not only was the remains of the hull on display, but also some 19 000 objects recovered from the wreck site.
When it came to choosing between the Mary Rose and HMS victory for our first visit, inevitably Miss I chose HMS victory, whilst Miss C chose the Mary Rose. In the end, we managed a visit to both in the time we had, and with tickets remaining valid for a whole year, another opportunity is bound to arise. Both Miss I and Miss C asked all sorts of questions and made various comments along the way, which was encouraging and suggests the museum has things about right to engage the youngsters.

Here are the two of them alongside one of the 109 cannon on board Nelson's HMS victory.
