Blowin' in the Wind

We made a reservation online at an old hotel in Pennsylvania by way of “Groupon.”  We left early in the morning, with our confirmation email in hand and headed north. On the way up, my husband wanted to run on one of the segments of the C&O Canal in his quest to complete all 184 miles and so while he ran, I walked along the river and canal with my camera. That’s where I came across this seed head that was just exploding in the breeze.

When we finally reached the hotel around 3 pm, we were informed there was no room for us and that all the rooms were already booked.  This hotel was listed on Trip Advisor, Bookings.com, Travelocity and every other booking site in addition to Groupon, and apparently the systems weren’t talking to each other.  We called several other hotels, and of course they were all booked, as you would expect on a Saturday night in August. Needless to say, we were feeling a bit grumpy at the thought of having to head home when I remembered an old favorite of ours which was about an hour away, but closer to home.   All’s well that ends well, and we weren’t left blowing in the wind and we were able to book the very last available room.

Moral of the story:  If you book online, always call the hotel to confirm they actually have a room.
