John F Kennedy Memorial

B and I had a memorable day cruising the River Thames between Runnymede and Windsor, we had a few hours in Windsor so time for a sandwich and exploring (and an ice cream!) before catching the boat back again and enjoying the river views in the golden evening light.

We had time after the boat ride to visit the memorial to John F Kennedy, which was designed by the architect Geoffrey Jellicoe on the theme of Bunyan's book Pilgrim's Progress.   The memorial is reached by climbing a path made from 60,000 individually hewn stone setts (to represent pilgrims), and 50 steps, each step representing a state in the USA.
As it was late in the day there was no one else there and we had the path and memorial all to ourselves. I found the whole experience quite moving, so was glad we chose a quiet time to visit.

The extra photos show the path up to the memorial and a view of the lovely River Thames in the evening light on our return trip back to Runnymede,

A wonderful day out!
